June 3rd, 2017: Los Angeles Arts District

Good evening from The Perfect LA Saturday!

June 3, 2017

This Saturday’s events are going to be centered around Downtown LA’s Arts District. Covered in murals, the Arts District is a vibrant neighborhood that maintains its own character within the rest of Downtown LA. It is filled with great restaurants and bars as well some iconic television filming locations such as Paddy’s Pub from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the loft from New Girl. So, without further ado, let’s explore the Arts District.

4:30 PM

Vista Hermosa Natural Park – FREE
100 N Toluca St., Los Angeles, CA 90026

Imagine sitting on a wooden bench in a grassy green park, tranquilly gazing at the towering buildings of Downtown LA. You may feel like Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Zooey Deschanel in 500 Days of Summer (unfortunately, while it looks similar, the actual bench from the movie is in Angels Knoll, which is now closed).  This park and its iconic view of Downtown LA is one that you have to see for yourself to believe that such a tranquil place exists in the midst of the hectic downtown. While it’s not in the Arts District, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to get a beautiful view of downtown. If you’re looking for a new Instagram photo or just an incredible view of the Los Angeles skyline, this is the place to be.

The only drive (or Uber) of this Saturday will be from Vista Hermosa Natural Park to Angel City Brewery. The rest of the day is walkable.

6:00 PM

Angel City Brewery – $ (Optional)
216 Alameda St., Los Angeles, CA 90012

Angel City Brewery makes artisan craft beers that are sold across California. This brewery was founded in 1997 and moved to a two-story warehouse in the Arts District in 2010. The diverse selection of artisan crafted brews including the Jameson Barrel–Aged Irish Red Ale (16.0% ABV), Srirachelada and the Oolong Saison await you. Filled with a host of activities, the laid-back atmosphere provides a scene for everyone.

8:30 PM

Wurstküche – $ (Optional)
800 E. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA 90013

Wurstküche is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. This German establishment boasts a savory sausage selection (with vegetarian options, if you’re like me) and some of the best Belgian fries I have ever eaten. If you’re feeling adventurous, Wurstküche offers a rattlesnake and rabbit sausage, which I have heard is incredible. While the food is outstanding, my favorite part of the restaurant is the atmosphere. After you order your food, you walk through a narrow hallway to be greeted by a giant room filled with communal wooden tables and a DJ spinning beats. And of course, it would be wrong of me if I didn’t mention their beer selection. Wurstküche’s beer menu caters to all aficionados of Belgian and German beers. They also sell PBR if that’s your thing. Prost!

10:45 PM

Pancakes and Booze Art Show – $
Lot 613
613 Imperial St., Los Angeles, CA 90021

The Pancakes and Booze Art Show, which started in 2009, comes to Los Angeles only a couple times a year. Located at Lot 613 in the Arts District, The Pancakes and Booze Art Show is filled with (you guessed it) pancakes, booze, and art. What more can you ask for? The show brings together close to 150 local artists to show off their work to the Los Angeles public. The venue also has DJs, body painting, and live painting as well as other entertainment throughout the night. I went to the last show when it was in town and all I can say is that I vowed not to miss the next one when it made its way back to LA. Tickets are $10, which includes entrance and unlimited free pancakes. Booze can be purchased at the bar. Come for the pancakes, booze and art and if you’re not a big fan of art, stay for the pancakes and booze.

Looking forward to seeing you this Saturday and making it The Perfect LA Saturday.
