Good evening from The Perfect LA Saturday!

July 22, 2017

Echo Park

It’s been over a month since our last Perfect LA Saturday since I decided to take a couple weeks off and travel. All that means is that I’m that much more excited to make this Saturday an amazing one. So, let’s get started.

This week, we will be exploring Echo Park, a neighborhood that has rapidly emerged as one of the hottest areas to in Los Angeles. Echo Park is filled with incredible restaurants, bars and attractions. Today, we’ll be exploring some of the well-known spots and hidden gems of Echo Park and will be ending our night at one of the most famous music venues in the area, The Echo. If you are planning on joining for pedal boating at the Echo Park Lake, make sure to bring a change of clothes.

1:00PM

Masa of Echo Park – $
1800 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90026

Our first stop will be Masa of Echo Park, one of the best Chicago Deep Dish Pizza spots in Los Angeles. If you’re from Chicago and want to get a mouthful of home or if you just love deep dish pizza like me, this is the spot to go. For all of my fellow vegetarians out there, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Make sure you bring your appetite; the portion sizes are supposed to be massive.

3:15 PM

Time Travel Mart – $ (Optional)
1714 W Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90026

Did you watch Back to the Future and wish you could time travel? Have you ever thought about how much Wooly Mammoth Chunks cost in the modern day? I know I’ve done both. The Time Travel Mart is the place to get answers to questions like these. With the slogan “Whenever you are, we’re already then,” this hidden gem in Echo Park has a ton of trinkets and fun items for sale.

4:15 PM

Sunset Beer Company – $ (Optional)
1498 W Sunset Blvd. Ste 3, Los Angeles, CA 90026
http://www.sunsetbeerco.com/

From the Time Travel Mart, we will walk to the Sunset Beer Company right down the road. Boasting over 800 beers, this local bar has a relaxed atmosphere with a cozy lounge and board games to play. It has constantly been featured on “top bars in Echo Park” lists, making it a must check out.

5:30 PM

Echo Park & Echo Park Lake $ (Optional)

After relaxing at Sunset Beer Company, we will walk over to the Echo Park Lake. What used to be a reservoir in the late 1800s is now a gorgeous park and lake with incredible views of downtown Los Angeles that attracts people from all over Southern California. One of the most highly recommended activities in the park is to rent a pedal boat with friends and ride around the lake, which of course, we will be doing. If you’re planning on pedal boating, it would be a good idea to bring a change of clothes. The cost of pedal boating is $10 per person.

7:00 PM

Phantasma Gloria (Randyland) – FREE
1648 Lemoyne St., Los Angeles, CA 90026

Part of Randy King Lawrence’s hidden Echo Park attraction, Randyland, the Phantasma Gloria is a massive mosaic of the Virgin of Guadalupe that is 50 feet long and stands 37 feet tall. This piece of art made of beads, marbles, bottles, and many other items has been featured in numerous large publications and has had three documentaries made about it. We will be heading over to this piece of art around sunset.

10:00 PM

The Echo – $ (After 10:30PM)
1822 W Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90026

Since the last The Perfect LA Saturday had to end early, we’ll be making up for it by staying out late on this one. At 10PM we will head over to the Echo, one of the most famous and oldest music venues in Echo Park. This Saturday is Funky Sole, a Funk music party that has been running for over a decade that will transport you back to the 60s. Make sure you bring your dancing shoes and get ready to get funky. Entrance is free to anyone who shows up before 10:30PM and $5 after.

Looking forward to seeing you this Saturday and making it The Perfect LA Saturday!
