Good evening from the Perfect LA Saturday!

Downtown LA

With my birthday coming up this Sunday, I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with all of you at The Perfect LA Saturday. I’m really looking forward to seeing each and every one of you on Saturday and having a great time together.

During the last Perfect LA Saturday, we explored some unique (this word may be an understatement) spots in Burbank and North Hollywood. This week, we’ll be visiting some of my favorite places in Downtown LA, from one of the best bookstores in LA to a fun Irish pub that we discovered in college and still frequent to this day. Thanks to The Last Bookstore and Little Damage, this week will be an Instagrammer’s dream. So, let’s get started.

4:30 PM

The Last Bookstore
453 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90013
http://lastbookstorela.com/

If you’re a fan of getting lost in a bookstore with a constant smell of old books following you around, the Last Bookstore will be a treat for you. You may have seen Instagram photos of people leaning by the tunnel of books or posing behind the hole in the bookshelf. I know I’ve done it. Every room in The Last Bookstore is a unique experience. My favorite rooms are a bank vault that houses all of the Horror/mystery novels and a labyrinthine section filled with bookshelves that you can just get lost in for hours.

6:00 PM

Guisados DTLA
541 S. Spring St. Ste 101, Los Angeles, CA 90013
http://www.guisados.co/

Originally founded in Boyle Heights, Guisados boasts some of the best tacos in Downtown LA. My recommendation is to get a sampler of six different tacos to taste the variety of flavors that Guisados offers. If you’re feeling particularly brave, try the Chiles Toreados tacos. Guisados describes this taco as “Habanero, serrano, jalapeno, and Thai chilies blistered together over high heat. Served on top of black beans. This taco is extremely spicy.” If you elect to try it, I will strongly consider paying for your taco (and maybe the Horchata that you’ll need after).

7:30 PM

Little Damage
700 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90014
https://www.littledamage.com/

Known for its charcoal ice cream, Little Damage has become the new cool spot in Los Angeles. With flavors like Mother of Dragons and Major Key Lime, Little Damage should appeal to anyone who is looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. If you want to know what the best flavor is, I’m not sherbet I’ve heard that you can’t go wrong with any of the flavors they offer.

8:45 PM

Clifton’s Republic
648 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90014
http://www.cliftonsla.com/

Clifton’s, one of the oldest cafeteria style restaurants in Los Angeles, contains four floors of restaurants and bars with themes unique to each bar. There are five bars include The Monarch, The Brookdale, Gothic Bar, Shadowbox and Pacific Seas. Each bar has its own menu and atmosphere, varying from a casual craft beer bar to a Tiki bar. We’ll make sure to see what each bar has to offer.

10:30PM

Casey’s Irish Pub
613 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90017
http://213hospitality.com/caseys/

I can’t think of a better way to end (technically begin) the night than by paying a visit to Casey’s Irish Pub. This bar does have a kick of nostalgia for me, bringing me back to my time at USC. One of Casey’s claims to fame is that it is the only place in Downtown LA that offers the Pickle Back (a shot of Jameson followed by pickle juice). I highly suggest you try one. They also have incredible drinks on their cocktails menu. If you had a Chiles Toreados taco earlier and are still feeling brave, try to start with the Irish Hello (the first drink on the menu) and end with the Irish Goodbye (the last drink on the menu). After meeting up at Casey’s, we will all head together to another bar in the area, which will be decided at that time.

Looking forward to seeing you this Saturday and making it The Perfect LA Saturday!
