April 21st, 2018 – Highland Park

Welcome to The Perfect LA Saturday!

If you aren’t going to Coachella weekend 2 and are looking for something fun to do in LA while Beyoncé lights up the stage in Indio, look no further. This week, we’ll be exploring Highland Park. We’ll be visiting the Los Angeles Police Museum, grabbing vintage sodas from one of the oldest soda pop shops in LA, pairing those sodas with some sugary donuts from a unique donut shop, washing it all down with some beers at Highland Park Brewery, then heading over for some Boozy Snow Cones at Block Party Highland Park.

So, without further ado, let’s get started.

1:30 PM

Los Angeles Police Museum ($9)
6045 York Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90042

Our first stop of the day will be the Los Angeles Police Museum. This museum based in Highland Park that showcases the history of the LAPD and contains evidence from many crimes committed around LA. It should be an interesting visit for any true crime fans out there.

3:00 PM

Galco’s Old World Grocery ($ Optional)
5702 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042

What started in 1897 as an Italian grocery store, Galco’s Old World Grocery has transitioned into a shop specializing in vintage sodas. With over 700 different types of sodas, it has something that will appeal to everybody. Galco’s and its owner, John Nese, have become famous to soda enthusiasts across the world.

4:00 PM

Donut Friend ($ Optional)
5107 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90065

While planning this day, I thought to myself, “what would pair well with soda?”. What I came up with was more sugar. Donut friend has a wide selection that offers something for every taste. Donut worry though, if you’re the choosy type, you can create your own donut with a variety of fillings, toppings and glaze.

5:00 PM

Highland Park Brewery ($ Optional)
5127 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042

If you’ve come out to the past few events or know me personally, then you know one important thing about me. I like beer. So naturally, I had to find the local brewery in Highland Park. Located in the Hermosillo in Highland Park, Highland Park Brewery offers a wide selection of beers with a laid back atmosphere.

7:30 PM

Block Party Highland Park ($ Optional)
5052 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042

Right next door to Highland Park Brewery sits Block Party Highland Park. With Boozy snow cones, micheladas, giant shuffleboard tables, and wii games projected on the walls, Block Party Highland Park is supposed to be a blast. We have tables reserved from 7:30pm-9:30pm, so feel free to bring food from one of the local vendors across the street to enjoy with your Boozy Snow Cones. Having our own Perfect LA Block Party will be a great way to close out this Perfect LA Saturday.

Block Party Highland Park will be the last official stop for this Perfect LA Saturday. Most likely, we will be continuing the party at an undecided bar in either Highland Park or back towards Downtown LA. If you would like to meet us at this point of the day, please feel free to email me at theperfectlasaturday@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing you all on April 21st and making it The Perfect LA Saturday!
