AUGUST 19TH, 2017 – Burbank/North Hollywood

Good evening from The Perfect LA Saturday!

RESCHEDULED TO August 19, 2017

Burbank/North Hollywood

This week, we will be exploring Burbank and North Hollywood. Seeing that Burbank is famous for its massive Ikea, my first inclination was to include it into The Perfect LA Saturday. What better way is there to spend a Saturday than to look at easy to build furniture and eat Swedish meatballs (or drink some great coffee if you’re vegetarian). Unfortunately (or fortunately), I found that there were many other interesting sites and things to do in Burbank and the neighboring North Hollywood arts district. This week, we’re going to be checking out one of the most popular restaurants in Los Angeles, Porto’s. We will also be exploring a couple bizarre spots this Saturday, so if you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone a little bit, this is the Saturday to attend.

4:00PM

Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum – $ (Optional)

3204 W. Magnolia Blvd.,

Burbank, CA 91505

Our first stop will be the Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum in Burbank. Functioning as both a museum and a gift shop, the Mystic Museum specializes in the otherworldly and downright weird. According to their Twitter page @TheMysticMuseum, the current art exhibit is: “Is there Anyone with Us? A Ouija Séance themed group art show.” I’m not sure what exactly that entails, but we’ll find out on Saturday.

5:30 PM

Porto’s Bakery – $

3614 W. Magnolia Blvd.,

Burbank, CA 91505

Listed as the #1 place to eat on Yelp’s official “Top 100 Places to Eat in the US for 2016: Fast Track to a Food Coma,” Porto’s Bakery is one of the most delicious places to eat at in Southern California. Featuring everything from Cuban sandwiches, potato balls, to the most addicting Mango Mousse (I’m not joking when I say that I can easily eat 10 of these), Porto’s has something for everyone.

7:30 PM

Idle Hour – $ (Optional)

4824 Vineland Ave.,

Los Angeles, CA 91601

After walking off our food coma along Chandler Walkway, we’ll head over to Idle House. Built in 1941, during the “programmatic architecture” movement, during which businesses would design their buildings with different themes to attract customers. Idle House was built in the shape of a massive barrel. After closing down for 30 years, Idle house was recently reopened on February 13, 2015 and now has a menu filled with craft cocktails, beers and food.

10:00 PM

California Institute of Abnormalarts (CIA) – $

11334 Burbank Blvd.,

Los Angeles, CA 91601

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Institute_of_Abnormalarts

http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/california-institute-for-the-abnormalarts-cia

From Idle Hour, we will head over to our last stop of the night, the California Institute of Abnormalarts (CIA). A nightclub and sideshow museum that hosts fire breathers, magicians, burlesque shows, freak shows, and unique bands, CIA is the definition of strange. If you’re a fan of horror films, freaky stuff, or are interested in letting your adventurous side take over for the night and exploring something completely out of the norm, this should be a great place to go. There may be a cover charge of $10, so bring cash just in case.

Looking forward to seeing you this Saturday and making it The Perfect LA Saturday.
